I am a sprint sales rep/ tech and I can say that this issue is not the sprint network, it is the OS. As of today, the Samsung S6 and HTC One M9 devices are the two phones having difficulty under the LTE frequencies. I should also mention that its not just sprint phones having the issue, it's all carriers!
This means it's either the manufacture OS or googles platform causing the errors. When sales reps do an in store test they use either internet explorer or chrome to see if the phone has a data connection. If the phone accesses the Internet then you know the data is working.
Jun 05, 2018 Hi I bought a HTC one m9 from some dodgy seller on eBay, I had my friend bring it out to me in Vietnam and have basically just accepted until arriving in Australia it.
If apps are not loading then it shows the issue it is the either the phones software or the apps themselves. Sprint sells phones of different manufactures running either Google or iOS software. When you add in Qualcomm processors and 3rd party apps there are many potential causes for errors and at the moment everyone that's involved is working on fixing this.
I reccommend keeping the phone on 3 G CDMA until there is an update to fix it so you don't run into more issues. Another thing to consider would be going into the play store and making sure all your apps are updated. With the activation error, the restored apps from your previous phone may not have optimized to work on the new phone correctly.
Nothing from sprint but I got frustrated and went to top people from HTC on twitter. They are sending me a brand new phone so that they can investigate the issue on my phone. So they at least are looking into it. Asked the guy if they have had a lotbof complaints and he said they had had a few days connection complaints (dropping signal) but different from ours. Told him that there have been a lot of people on the message boards with the same problem.
Hopefully the new phone will fix my problem cause I think that this is happening on the first editions of the device(could be wrong). New device helps me potentially but not you guys or my wife. When I get it I'll write on here if bit works.big it doesbyou can hopefully just go swap it out at sprint. You know, I never had these weird issues with my M7. I got that phone two weeks after it was announced as well. My M9 decided that it didn't like the SIM card and claimed it didn't have one for a couple minutes today. I was trying to update PRL when this happened.
I noticed that another time I tried to update the PRL, it got 'stuck' trying to push it through. So I'm pretty sure something weird is going on with that. I got the No sim card nonsense on my M7 for a couple months when it suddenly stopped. That was the biggest issue with that phone.
But it seems like it might be an HTC thing. Sometimes, maybe once after I turn it on after a charge, when I exit an app and when it tries to switch back to home screen, it'll turn black. Like it's stuck trying to go inbetween screens. This happened prior to the latest update as well. I'm hoping that an update will clear this stuff up. I'd hate to see it be an actual hardware issue where these batches are bad.
If you are having trouble with receiving the OTA updates, then it’s most probably down to absence of stock recovery, or, because of any changes in system partition when it needs to be 100% untouched stock partition. Stock recovery and untouched stock system partition, mounted as read-only, are two pre-requisite of One M9 OTA updates. Lack of any one would do no good. We’ll discuss how to fix both of these issues, you do need both of them fixed to get OTA update working.
Know that both of the above causes are possible only if you installed, or at least tried installing, a custom recovery like TWRP on your phone. Because that removes stock recovery when installed, and if it’s a version prior to 2.8.6.0, then that version mounted the system as read-write, something which breaks down compatibility of OTA updates. You need that as read-only. Note that even if you fix one of the cases below, you’ll not get OTA update fixed. You need to fix both cases discussed below. If you cannot find the stock recovery for your current build no.

Of One M9, try finding the RUU file of the firmware that’s installed on your device by using its build no. As reference. Installing the firmware back would bring the One M9 to factory state, and would remove all custom recovery and system partitions, and make it ready to receive OTA updates. Find here, make sure you select only the correct build no. Case 2: Changes to system partition, or mounted as read-write For the second issue, when the system partition has changed, you need to have a back up of stock system partition, which you can now restore. Now the backup of stock partition is possible currently only when you use beta version of TWRP recovery, which keeps system intact from any changes by keeping its mount mode as read-only, the default one.
Any version prior to 2.8.5.0 of TWRP changes the mount status to read-write, which breaks things, while the 2.8.6.0 version keeps system as read-only, but doesn’t back up the stock system which you need for restoring when you’re looking to receive OTA updates. So, if you have the back up of stock system partition of your current firmware, then to restore the system backup. If you don’t have the backup of stock system, which could be the case most probably, then flashing the RUU remains only chance. RUU would restore the One M9 back to factory state, ready for OTA updates. Find here, make sure you select only the correct build no.
Summary Although chances of it are slim, but if you knew about the issues of TWRP recovery with HTC One M9, and then you took care to install a beta version of TWRP recovery (newer than 2.8.6.0) to keep system’s read-only mount status as intact, and then took a backup of it, you can restore it back now using fastboot method, and also install the stock recovery back, to get the OTA updates back. Otherwise, your only hope is flashing the firmware back using its RUU. Make sure it’s for your One M9’s model no.
